As reported by Dr. Hassan Sessay at the Bai Bureh Memorial Hospital in Lungi:
A husband brought the wife to the hospital pretending to be a neighbour because he was too poor to admit that he was the husband. He told us that the husband has left the wife, 26 years old, in labour pain and disappear. In sympathy he has decided to come with her to the hospital for help with only Le 100,000.
We admitted her after diagnosing a multiple gestation and operated her. She delivered quadruplets by Caesarean section: three girls and one boy. Two were born weighing 5lbs each. The third weighed 4.5lbs and the smallest weighed 3lbs. All were ok after the delivery as well as the mother.
A visitor who knew that the man who pretended to be the neighbour is the real husband started to congratulate him. He was shy to answer before the hospital staff.
The secret was known by the mid-wife who revealed it to us. We ask this man why he decided to tell lies. The answer he gave is "it’s because of poverty". They came from Kalamgba about 45 km from Lungi. |
