Just after the arrival of our new tropical doctors Erdi and Saskia, there was a case of Burkitt’s Lymphoma (a kind of lymph gland cancer) in the children’s ward. Adequate medication was not available in Sierra Leone so the doctors asked the team in Holland to send some doses of cyclophosphamide urgently.
Thanks to the quick action taken by Dr. van der Ham from the Lion Heart Foundation, the next person to visit Sierra Leone brought the necessary medication with him.
The pictures show clearly what the result of the treatment is. The boy is almost completely cured and the parents are obviously very grateful. |
