The Bai Bureh Memorial Hospital at Lungi

This hospital was founded just before the war broke out by Dr. Kamara who managed it during 30 years. Before his death in 1998, Dr. Kamara asked Dr. ABD Sesay and SSLDF to take over the management of his hospital. Since then, SSLDF is responsible for the daily activities of this establishment.

The Bai Bureh Hospital in Lungi was in bad shape. The roofing needed replacement and the building needed urgent repairs and a paint job. The sanitary appliances, when available, were in a deplorable state. The installation of water piping was done as well as the construction of a water reservoir. The water projet is finished now. The power lines as well as the electrical installation will need replacement.

A building, which in earlier days was used for meetings, exists on the premises of the Bai Bureh Hospital. During the civil war this building was de-commissioned and became practically useless. A need exist to refurbish this building into its former state in order to be able to instruct and educate the medical staff there, as well as use the building for meeting purposes.

Today the hospital has 50 beds and employs about 40 people. The main doctor, Hassan Sesay, is assisted by Dr. David Koroma.
