This month we would like to highlight Helga Bjarnadottir. She lives in Iceland and works with an organization called Soroptimists of Arbaer who work to better the lives of women and children. The purpose of her visit to the organization was to donate money raised to support the annual sports meet at Magbenteh Community Boarding School.
She arrived to Sierra Leone with her husband and 2 sons, and while her trip to the organization was short, we had the chance to collaborate on future projects with her having a particular interest in the under-five’s clinic. We toured the hospital and school, while doing so her and her sons passed out light key chains to the children and teachers in order to “light of the night,” she said as well as give the school a few boxes of books and toys.
“We are planning and already started to introduce some projects in your community and we are hoping that other Soroptimists clubs in Iceland will participate in it with us.”
Helga, because of your efforts the Annual Sports day at MCBS was a huge success. SSLDF puts great emphasize on the importance of physical education and children’s health, which correlates with your organization’s values. We are looking forward to having you back at the organization in the future.!
